Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Surgery in Prague
A tummy tuck is cosmetic surgery of the abdomen (abdominoplasty). The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding or sagging abdomen. It firms up dilated muscles of the abdominal wall and flattens the abdomen. A tummy tuck is typically suitable for men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won't respond to diet or exercise. The procedure can also correct problems arising following significant weight loss or delivery of a baby, which has stretched abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. It can also be used by older patients who have a loss of skin elasticity occuring with slight obesity. A tummy tuck may be undertaken in combination with liposuction.
The procedure is not suitable for those that are too overweight. Patients who intend to lose a lot of weight should postpone the surgery. Women who plan future pregnancies should wait, as muscles tightened during surgery may separate again during pregnancy. Patients with scarring from previous abdominal surgery may get scars that are unusually prominent.
Abdominoplasty
Procedure: The procedure removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. A large incision is made across the abdomen, usually directly under the overhansing skin. Patients should not smoke at all at least 1-2 weeks before and after surgery. Before surgery patients should avoid overexposure to the sun, especially to the abdomen, and should not go on a stringent diet. It is done under general anesthesia. Length of surgery depends on extent. Patients spend 2 nights in clinic.
Recovery: Recovery can take some time. There may be some swelling of the abdomen for the first few days. There may be some pain which can be managed with medications. Patients in good physical condition will recover faster. Stiches and bandages are removed after 14-16 days. Recovery takes about 14 days. Recommended stay in Prague and back to work in 7-15 days or longer if work is physical or patient recovers slowly. Compressive tummy belt must be worn for 4-6 weeks. The surgeon may suggest some light exercise program to assist recovery. Activity should be minimised for 3-7 days after surgery and strenuous exercise avoided for 4-6 weeks. It does produce a permanent scar, however will not be noticable under clothing or bathing suits.
