Face Lift and Neck Lift Surgery Abroad

Face and neck lift surgery can resolve problems related to ageing of the skin of the face. The procedure will tighten loose and sagging skin of the face, neck and jowls. It may improve deep creases between the nose and mouth and improve folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. It results in a more youthful, fresh and energetic appearance. Facelifts are very individualized procedures. In your consultation the surgeon will evaluate your face, skin and bone structure and discuss your goals for the surgery. The procedure may also include brow lift, forehead lift or mini face lift.

The procedure is common for both men and women. A complete treatment plan for the face could also include liposuction of fat from the chin area to rectify double chin and eyelid surgery to solve wrinkled skin around the eyes and eye bags.

Procedure: The procedure involves the skillful removal of excess and tightening of facial skin, muscle and the layer of tissue called SMASS from the neck, chin and cheek areas. The surgeon separates the skin from the fat and muscle below. Some fat may be removed to improve the contour. The surgeon then tightens the underlying muscle and SMASS, pulls the skin back, and removes the excess. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions. The exact procedure followed depends on the facial structure and your surgeon's technique. In some cases part of the incisions are made behind the tragus in the ear, in order to minimise visible scarring.

Patients should not smoke at all at least 1-2 weeks before and after surgery. If your hair is very short, you might want to let it grow out before surgery, so that it is long enough to hide the scars while they heal. It is done under general anesthesia. Surgery normaly takes 2-3 hours. Patients spend 2 nights in clinic.

Recovery: There is not usually significant pain or discomfort after the surgery. Any pain can be managed with medications. For 2-3 weeks there may be some swelling and bruising and the skin of the face may feel a little strange with some stiffness and numbness.

Stitches & bandages are removed after 14-16 days. Recommended stay in Prague and back to work in 7-14 days, possibly with makeup to hide bruising. For 3-7 days after surgery patients should minimise activity and be careful with the face and hair, for 2-3 weeks should avoid strenuous activity, and for several months should limit exposure to the sun and avoid sauna. Scarring is hidden behind the hairline or the ears.
