1. What is the basis of the GHO method of FUE?
In the GHO method the grafts, which contain one or more hair follicles, are taken directly from the donor area one after another and placed in the transplant area. A small part of the follicle removed remains in the original (donor) area and a complete new hair grows out of it again.
2. What are the main advantages of the GHO method of FUE?
The most visible advantage in comparison with the classical transplant is that the GHO method does not create a scar in the donor area. The donor area heals within 7-10 days. Less skin is taken from the scalp with the same or a higher number of grafts compared with the old method. The tiny wounds in the recipient area heal better because the new grafts and accepted more quickly. The little wounds in the donor area are basically already closed by the end of the operation.
3. Does the GHO method of FUE achieve better results?
The grafts (small pieces of tissue with one or several hair follicles) are removed one after another with a special needle from that part of the head where there is undamaged hair growth. A needle of the same size is used for the creation of small openings into which the grafts are then implanted. Because the grafts are the same size as the openings the result achieved is far more natural than using the older method.
4. Is the procedure painful?
Thanks to the technique of pre-anaesthesia and pressure anaesthesia the operation itself is absolutely painless. Naturally there are no stitches and they do not need to be removed.
5. How thick will my new hair be?
The thickness that can be achieved in the course of a single operation depends on the number of grafts we can take and the size of the recipient area. In the consultation the doctor will discuss your wishes, ascertaining the possible collection of grafts, and recommend a suitable solution.
6. What will I be able to do with my new hair?
Apart from the first 14 days after transplantation (the healing period), you can do all the usual things with your new hair. It is your hair and will continue to grow for the rest of your life.
7. How long will it be before I see the results?
It takes the new grafts 2-3 months before they appear visibly above the skin and hair grows. If repeated treatment is required the full effect of all the procedures appears after 9 to 12 months.
8. How long does the operation take?
Depending on the number of grafts the procedure may take from 3 to 6 hours. The operation takes place with local desensitisation and can be stopped at any time for a while so that the patient can rest. The GHO method involves transplantation of individual hair follicles and is very demanding work for the whole team carrying out the operation.
9. Is there some age limit for carrying out hair transplants by the GHO method?
No. With regard to the gentle nature of the operation the method is suitable for all age groups. Our oldest patient so far is 75 years old. The only limit is the ability of the patient to lie on his stomach for 1-3 hours.
10. How many grafts or operations will I need?
The number of grafts (or operations) needed to achieve a satisfactory result varies and is highly individual. Generally speaking, 2 or 3 operations obtain the desired result. If the alopecia is of small extent a single operation is sometimes enough. If the thickness of the hair in the donor area permits, the transplantation may be carried out as often as the client wishes, sometimes even several days running. The only restriction is that if the transplants are carried out to a single area there must be an interval of at least 3-4 months between the individual operations.
11. Won't the transplanted hair fall out after a time?
Will it last at least 20 years?
Transplanted hair does not fall out. The hair comes from a so-called safe zone where the hair has no genetic or hormonal problems.
12. What written guarantees do you give for your "work"?
We write up a contract with the patient before the operation where both he and we undertake certain actions and responsibility for them. If there should be any damage or poor growth then we guarantee in writing reparation free of charge or the return of a certain part of the money.
13. Is it necessary to carry out any examination before the operation?
Before the operation we do not require any special examination, we are satisfied with the written declaration of the patient that he has not concealed any serious illness from us.
14. How many transplants are needed to eliminate thinning
hair on the temples?
In principle at least 400 grafts are required for the temples. For normal temples 1-2 operations are quite enough, the second being 60-70% of the quantity of the first.
15. Does hair transplant use someone else's hair or artificial hair?
Natural hair transplant uses your own hair, transplanted from the donor area to the recipient area.
16. Are hair transplants only for men?
No, the number of women seeking hair transplant surgery increases every year.
17. Will I have a thick head of hair like when I was a teenager?
The amount of hair that can be transplanted depends on the amount available in the donor area. So there may be limitations and it may not be possible to have thick hair like a teenager. It is important the have realistic expectations as to what can be achieved. The doctor will describe to you what is possible during consultation.
